Posting this week
Sorry I didn't post much this weekend. I was sick most of the weekend and didn't do a whole lot until yesterday. I will update the blog later tonight and this week. I might not be blogging a lot for a few weeks since I am in the process of getting checklists and progress reports ready as well as testing and IEP's are coming up. I promise I will do my best! :) Friday is the due date for this month's book club orders. I will also be working on the monthly newsletter this week and sending it home soon. March book orders are due March 28th. Remember, you can still use your coupons for a free book until then! Buy $10.00 and get a book up to $5.00 FREE! The order is going in well before Easter, so this would be a good time to get books for the Easter baskets! :) Have a great week!

New pictures tab
I just added a new tab for pictures since the other tab was getting too full. From now on, all new pictures will be added to that tab. Add lots of Valentine's Day projects and pictures, more to come! Also "RACK" and Winter Olympics.
Updates coming today and tomorrow!
I am in the process of updating the blog today and Monday. I haven't
posted much this week, been very busy with the Valentine's Day Party and
checklist testing.
I will add pictures to our "RACK" project
tab from Thursday. The three day class completed some random acts of
kindness and passed out thank you cards and cookies to all of the staff members
at Thomas Edison. The kids had so much fun and the staff were very
surprised! Lots of hugs! We are doing it again with the two day
class on Wednesday before their Valentine's Day Party. We are continuing
our "RACK" project by reading the book, "Have You Filled Your
Bucket Today?" It's a book that teaches kindness and filling your
"bucket" and your friend's "bucket" with kind words and
actions. Look for more information soon!
There will also be updates about the Valentine's Day party and
projects we completed this week.
More updates coming about our Winter Olympic theme too! (I am typing this as I watch the USA vs. Slovenia hockey game!) :) The
students watched a little bit of hockey, curling, and snowboarding this week.
It was so cute! While the kids were watching snowboarding on the
computer, they pulled the cube chairs in front of the computer and were
"sitting in the bleachers" watching the competition! :D Also,
they were VERY interested in curling and asked lots of questions! :)
This week is the last week of the Olympics with the Closing Ceremony next
Sunday night. We are celebrating and having "S is for Sports" week.
Have your child bring a picture of any sport to feed Letter Muncher.
We are making red, white, and blue projects, reading books about the
Olympics, counting the medals the USA earns, watching more of the Olympics, and
completing learning activities with an Olympic Theme. Friday will be "Go
USA!" Day! Have your child wear red, white, and blue to show their pride!
There is no school tomorrow. Monday, February 17th, 2014.
Happy President's Day!

Early Spring!
I know the ground hog said six more weeks of winter but it can come a little early on a snow day! Have a craft day filled with fun spring art projects to keep your little one occupied on a snow day. Here are a couple suggestions from my March and April Pinterest Boards! (Don't be surprised if you see some of these pop up on the blog as the students complete them at school!)

"Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons"
On Friday, we read the story "Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons". The kids loved this story! We talked about subtraction or what we call, "Big Kid Math". I used Pete's groovy buttons to demonstrate how to subtract by 1's. They love learning "Big Kid" math! :) We also talked about how sometimes things happen that we can't help and it's going to be OK in the end. Plus, the kids laughed hysterically when he sang about his belly button! Here is the video story book of the the story. I sang The Groovy Buttons song and the kids were singing with me once they picked up the tune. :)
Pancakes!
Not only did we get an early start to Valentine's Day last week, we also studied the letter P. We read books about penguins, made penguins, practiced writing the letter using Rainbow Writing, painted with the colors pink and purple and read "If You Give a Pig a Pancake." We talked about how pig and pancake started with the same sound and fed Letter Muncher P pictures. As we read "If You Give a Pig a Pancake", we practiced putting each thing the pig wanted in order and the kids predicted what the pig wanted at the end of the book. When they said more pancakes, we talked about why and how there were able to figure out the answer. Then, we went to the tables and made pancakes! The kids helped me count the ingredients, how many cups of each ingredient, and figure out what cooking utensils I needed. The kids also helped me figure out if I followed the directions and added all the ingredients. Then, the students took turns mixing the batter! They were SO excited and devoured the pancakes at snack time.
Hearts!
This past week, we got an early start on Valentine's Day! The Friday class decorated these adorable hearts using doilies foam stickers, both from the Dollar Tree! As you can see, the students were very creative with their designs! These are going on the bulletin board outside the room. The Monday class will make these tomorrow. I will post pictures of the completed board later in the week.
Remember the Christmas Card project from December? Since the kids loved looking at those cards, I decided to give the kids a tub filled with Valentine's Day cards. They are a hit! I put cards for both girls and boys and they all love sorting and looking through the cards. The Disney Princess and Super Hero cards are big hits! :D
Penguin Bulletin Board
Remember the cute penguins I posted about last week? Well, here is the finished bulletin board! I also added hearts for Valentine's Day. It's really cute!
Check back for more pictures, posts, pancakes, and Pete the Cat! (Yes, P was the letter of the week! :D )
